The Great North Run, the world’s largest half marathon is now only a few months away. For us it has been a familiar story, with demand for charity places outstripping supply. With so many inspiring stories to choose between, it was never going to be an easy decision to decide who to give places to and we want to thank everyone who took the time to apply to run for us this year.
We asked members of our team taking part in the 2022 Great North Run if they wouldn’t mind sharing their reasons to run this year…
Irene & Deborah are running “in memory of all the women who have fought or are fighting against breast cancer.” Deborah is “especially running for my gorgeous friend Louise who sadly lost her battle against breast cancer at the age of 36. And also, my husband’s Auntie Jennifer at the age of 50.”
Fae is running because “My mum has been battling cancer for the last 10 years. Breast cancer was where her cancer originally started and unfortunately spread to different areas of the body. Most of the women in my mum’s family have also passed away from breast cancer. I want to raise awareness for signs of breast cancer.”
Chelsey is running because “after a regular breast screening, my Mam was diagnosed with breast cancer, luckily it was detected at the early stages. Last year she underwent two operations, radio, and chemotherapy. I am happy to say she is now in recovery. I’m running the Great North Run 2022 to help raise money for treatments and awareness for women to regularly check their breasts!”
Emma is running because “I am a therapy Radiographer so my whole job is treating cancer patients. I have been doing this for 25 years. Everything changed when my best friend got diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Suddenly it was all very personal and bought the reality of this prevalent disease to all of our lives.”
And finally…
Ruby is a running the Mini Great North Run “I am 7 years old and I have wanted to run the Mini Great North Run for a few years! Last year my nana was diagnosed with breast cancer and is so brave! I want to raise as much money as possible to help other people with breast cancer like her! Please donate any amount will help me to reach my target!”
We would like to extend our best wishes to every member of the team and wish them well through their training.
