On April 14th Dan Llewellyn and James Gammon completed the Reading Half Marathon for Against Breast Cancer in under two hours. The pair took this on in support of Dan’s mother Gail, who was diagnosed with breast cancer late last year.
It was the first half marathon either of them had ever entered, making it a phenomenal effort from both of them. They have raised a brilliant £2000 thus far.
“Doing the Reading half marathon and raising the amount I did has been the greatest thing I’ve done in my life so far,” Dan told us. “The race itself was so challenging particularly with it being my first one. Luckily, I had my friend James with me who helped get me through it.
“The feeling I had with people cheering me and so many others on was amazing. Ending the race at the stadium (the Select Car Leasing Stadium, home of Reading FC) was special for me as I’m originally from Reading anyway and I have a strong love for football. It was a day I’ll never forget but most importantly money has been raised for an amazing cause so even if it helps just one person, I’m happy.”
Dan’s Mother, Gail was able to share some proud words ahead of Dan’s challenge:
“Our son Dan is running today as I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in November. I’ve been really choked up: it’s the first one he’s ever done, and he’s been training so hard as he’s not a natural runner. I think when I see him cross the line, I’m going to cry because it’s just so emotional.”
