On Sunday 21 April, 12 Against Breast Cancer runners took on the iconic 26.2 mile route from Greenwich Park to the Mall at the TCS London Marathon 2024.
Our team of runners were joined by 3 more who chose to fundraise for ABC with their own place in the marathon. Together they have raised a quite staggering £47,000 and counting!
“It was an incredibly inspiring day, getting to meet every one of our runners at the finish and hearing about their individual journeys to the start-line was special,” said Event fundraiser Amber Griffith.
Amber continued, “This year’s cohort have been a real team, keeping in touch throughout the winter training via Whatsapp; with some even managing to meet up and run together on the course. Every runner has their own unique reason to run for ABC and to be able to greet them at the finish and offer them a well-earned massage was fantastic.”
A number of the ABC runners happened to finish within several minutes of each other and were therefore able to meet together at the ABC tent in St James’ Park whilst enjoying a massage. Thanks to St Mary’s College London who provided us with two student therapists.
We are delighted to be able to share a few words from a handful of the ABC runners following their marathon challenge:
Tom England – “The hardest but most incredible and rewarding experience of my life.”
Gary Coburn – “Very proud and honoured to have worn the pink top and run in memory of my wife who I know would be very proud of my run and of the whole journey I went through. Thank you, ABC.”
Emily Wallace – “It was the most amazing experience, the support from the charity and other people running for the charity was amazing. Thank you so much for this opportunity, I feel on top of the world right now.”
Karen Heslop – “I joined the WhatsApp group with the other runners, and it really felt like we were part of a team, everyone offering support and encouragement. The meet-up after the race was fantastic, Thank you, ABC.”
Hannah Crompton– “I was so proud to run for ABC, the work they do is so vital. Thank you for everything!”
Katia Clarke – “To be given the opportunity of running the London marathon for ABC was an incredible experience. One of the best days of my life, certainly never experienced self-pride like it! Thanks, ABC for the opportunity.”
