Against Breast Cancer’s annual community fundraising event Splash of Pink returned to Abingdon marketplace for 2024 on Saturday 20th July. The town turned pink for the day as local businesses dressed their windows in support of ABC and breast cancer awareness. Various stalls and entertainment joined live acts in the town square.
The event was kicked off by the Deputy Mayor and town crier, whilst Against Breast Cancer Chair of Trustees, Richard Bahu presented the schedule for what was a jam-packed day.
After the opening ceremony, the Rock Choir sprung into song filling the market square with music and attracting a large crowd. This fantastic performance was followed by more brilliant acts including Abbey Brass, The Strawberry Fayre Majorettes, The Undercovers, Ashnah Belly Dance and The Amanda Alder Dance Academy, who all took to the stage to deliver their unique performances.
Alongside the live acts and music, Tracey Amazing Woods donned the pink Flamingo costume, tirelessly collecting donations all day! “The Dogspot” held a fantastic pink pooch competition, where the best-photographed dog won a prize. “The UK Garrison” came to support again for another year with the incredible stormtroopers, and the superb Fiona Frost and friends baked and sold their wonderful homemade cakes.
“Splash Of Pink is all about local community and spreading our message in the town we are situated in. ABC has been based in Abingdon for the past 30 years and we are passionate about spreading awareness for our cause whilst also engaging our local supporters. This year was an incredible turnout and a fantastic day, and we could not do it without our superb volunteers and supporters of the charity, they make this day possible.”
Amber Griffith, Sports & Community manager.
