Clothes Recycling
Fashion shouldn’t cost the earth
In the UK we choose to throw away around 300,000 tonnes of clothes every year. These clothes end up either in landfill or are burned in incinerators. As a nation we buy more clothes per person than any other country in Europe and it is estimated that less than 1% of material used to produce our clothing is recycled into new clothing at the end of its life.
By recycling clothes less raw materials are needed, less energy is used, less pollution is generated and it provides an economic stimulus, both here in the UK and abroad.
Clothes recycling in your area
Not everyone finds it easy or has the time to take their old clothes to a local charity shop or textile recycling bin, so our doorstep clothes recycling scheme collects from you.
Since 2011, together with our partners, the Recycling Clothes Company, Against Breast Cancer has collected tens of thousands of tonnes of clothes from hundreds of thousands of households right across the UK, all raising vital funds for breast cancer research.
Each year your donations would fill over 11 Jumbo jets full of clothes! All made possible through doorstep collection bags.
Thank you for recycling your old clothes to support Against Breast Cancer. The funds generated by these collections are playing a critical role in the development of new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of breast cancer.

If you receive a collection bag like the one pictured through your letterbox, by filling it with your old clothes you will be raising funds to support our life-saving research into secondary spread, the main cause of breast cancer related deaths.
All you need to do is put the clothing you no longer require into the sack contained within the pack and leave it outside on your doorstep. There’s no need for you to do anything else, teams working for our partners, Recycling Clothes Company will collect the bags (usually 2 working days after delivery), you will find the collection date printed on the reverse.
If you do not wish to receive a clothing collection bag please help us to avoid unnecessary waste by displaying on your door a sticker or sign including the words ‘no charity bags’ or ‘no clothing bags’. Distributors will not deliver to addresses that show the householder does not want to donate in this way.
You can recycle more than clothes
Although clothes are by far the most popular item we recycle, we are striving to increase the different types of items we can accept. Currently you can fill the sacks with ladies, gents and childrens clothing, bed linen, paired shoes, handbags, perfumes, CD’s, video games, DVD’s, phones or even toys!
Unfortunately, we are unable to recycle bric-a-brac, books, duvets, furniture and electricals.
If you have any other questions regarding the clothes recycling scheme, please look at our FAQs page.
