Read Paul’s story which details his retelling of Jill’s experience of breast cancer.
Lab tour
Today I traveled to Abingdon near Oxford to Against Breast Cancer’s office then on a bus to Southampton University to a lab tour organised by the staff of the charity who I’m going to raise money for on my Jogle challenge. I was invited to see for myself the new laboratory that all the research takes place by experts in their field with the help of phd students who are researching into finding more effective treatments and to find a vaccine that will increase survival rates of secondary breast cancer.
Training walks
23rd March
Myself and Carl junior walked the shorter route of 15 miles of the Charnwood Marathon. Really enjoyable route with great views and weather.
24th March
I’ve made my way by train this afternoon to Hebdon Bridge. Tomorrow I will start walking to Edale on the Pennine Way. I’ll be walking it in stages that I’ll be doing on my joggle challenge starting 1st May. I’ll be walking to Marsden tomorrow, then Torside, then to arrive at Edale on Wednesday afternoon. It looks like good weather for it.
25th March
I walked 21 miles today from my accommodation in the old town of Hebden Bridge to my accommodation in Marsden. I’ve walked 5 extra miles because of my accommodation. No complaints because I passed two young men walking the Pennine Way back packing. Let me tell you I tried to pick one up at dinner while having a beautiful pint of Tomothy Taylor Landlord and I couldn’t pick it up. This is a 6ft 3x miner/ Dry stone waller for 25 years. I wished them the best of luck. Glad I’m not backpacking. I’ve got a lovely room en suite in my bnb in Marsden. Having some Italian food to build me up for tomorrows walk to Torside. Loving every minute.
26th March
A shorter walk today on my journey from Marsden to The Old House b&b at Torside. About 13 miles in total. This b&b is the only place available for Pennine Way Walkers. The youth Hostel that used to be open for walkers at Crowden only opens for large parties of people. My host will drive me to the nearest pub later, so I can have a meal and pick me up later for a minimal fee.
27th March
A tough 16 miles today from Torside to Edale. It was blowing on the tops. A pint of black sheep went down a treat in the Nags Head.
6th April
Myself and Carl walked 21 miles today on the three Shires walk. There is a 23 miles and 29 miles route also. Fantastic event organised by Staffordshire group of the Ldwa. You get a feast half way round and at the end. It got warm later in the afternoon. Great day out.
29th April
Well my train to Edinburgh is on time. I made a tactical decision this morning. Instead of catching the train from Alfreton then changing at Chesterfield for my cross country train to Edinburgh, I came to Chesterfield by bus. I had a light breakfast at Wetherspoons and a couple of black coffee refills. There looks a great monday market here today and of course the magnificent crooked spire.
