Our fantastic supporter Kate recently took on the gruelling 3 Peaks Challenge for Against Breast Cancer despite challenging conditions.
Kate and the rest of her team had to overcome not just the challenge of climbing three mountains in 24 hours but also navigating the various plan changes thrust upon them throughout the challenge as they were unable to climb either Ben Nevis or Skidadaw (the replacement option) due to poor weather and road conditions:
“Global Adventure Challenges (the tour operator) were amazing,” Kate told us. “They did everything in their power to find us accommodation further south and another mountain to try to summit instead of Ben Nevis, only to find on Sunday morning that the road to Skiddaw was closed as well! So, yet another plan was drawn up but still, everyone remained upbeat! We scaled Blencathra which was stunning and even managed a wild swim in the Derwent Water before getting back on track.
“The night trek up Scafell Pike was a unique experience, and we were treated to clement conditions and clear sparkling skies. Then Snowdon really pulled it out of the bag. Even our guides were saying they had never walked up in such amazing conditions. We were above the clouds and getting sunburned! It’s been an amazing weekend.”
Kate has raised nearly £2000 with donations still coming in. Kate wanted to show support for her dear friend.
“I have a very close friend having treatment for breast cancer at the moment. I decided to fundraise for Against Breast Cancer in the hope that she will not have to go through it again. Her strength and resilience has been inspirational and it definitely kept me motivated throughout the weekend!”
Kate has already pledged to return to Scotland and attempt Ben Nevis at some point in the near future. If you fancy following in her footsteps, enquire today about taking part in the 3 Peaks Challenge or another trekking challenge.
