We were deeply honoured to be chosen as the charity partner for the 60th Oxford Professionals’ Charity Christmas Lunch which was held at Christ Church College in Oxford.
Surrounded by paintings of so many inspirational people, we took the opportunity to talk to an audience of over 200 members of the local business community about three of our own inspiring research scientists and their accomplishments over the past year.
Guest speaker, Erin Kennedy MBE was just 29 when she was diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer. She spoke about the impact it had made on her life and how she overcame the setback by drawing strength from her team.
Erin, the inspirational Cox of the Mixed Coxed Four rowing team, is the first and only coxswain to ever hold the Paralympic, World and European titles at the same time. She won her second European title while undergoing chemotherapy. Then just over a year after her diagnosis, she was part of the gold medal-winning team at the Paris Paralympics.
We want to thank everyone involved in organising this special occasion, and all those who attended and supported our research. Such recognition is not just a testament to our mission but also a heartfelt reminder of the incredible support that makes our research possible.
The venue, Christ Church College, with all of its rich history and inspiring architecture, was a fitting location to bring together professionals united by a shared commitment to making a difference.
Funds raised by this prestigious event will help us continue to push the boundaries of breast cancer research. We undertake projects focusing on the prevention, earlier detection and the development of new therapies against breast cancer.
Events such as the Oxford Professionals Charity Christmas Lunch amplify the collective impact of our community, demonstrating how compassion, collaboration and an inspirational guest speaker can drive change. Thank you to everyone who attended and for joining us on our journey of hope and discovery.
