When Debs was 58 she was on a walking holiday with her cousin and they came up with the crazy idea of celebrating Debs 60th year on planet earth with sixty fabulous challenges!
Debs decided to get creative with her long hair and do a new style every week for a year, each week she would aim to raise £60 making her desired total £3,120. She aimed to raise the funds through social media by posting pics, all donations were for Against Breast Cancer’s research into secondary spread, the main cause of breast cancer related deaths.
In the village that Debs lived in Swainsthorpe, Norfolk, she arranged an event to celebrate International Women’s Day. Here took place one of Debs 60 fabulous hair styles where she took the clippers and shaved off one side of her hair! This brave and inspirational moment caused a surge of donations. The photos from this event and her many social media posts were proudly displayed at her 60th birthday party.
I am proud of my breasts and it made me think how sad I would be if I was to lose one due to breast cancer, I really wanted to help fund the research
In addition to crazy hair styles, Debs has also collected over 80 stones of bras (that’s 380kg!) to add to her fundraising. Thanks to her interview on Radio Norfolk she received many bra donations, some addressed to Swainsthorpe Bra Mountain and The Bra Lady! They had so many black bags full of bras in her living room her poor husband thought he was living in a bra factory!
Debs is a true inspiration and a great supporter. Through fundraising in her community Debs has so far raised over £2,200 and is well on her way to beating her target of £3,120, which is fantastic and she has pledged to continue her fundraising until she reaches her target.
