We recently received a beautifully written letter from 8-year-old Annalisa Stammers, who wanted to share news of her swimathon and fundraising journey with us.
Annalisa’s friend and hairdresser are both battling breast cancer, she wanted to raise funds for Against Breast Cancer to show her support and to help fund vital research into secondary spread.
With the help of 4 friends; Hattie, Oriana, Grace and Hattie, they formed team ‘HCJS Swimathon Girls’. They took on 63 lengths between them in one hour at Thames Leisure Centre! Not only was this a huge challenge, but that was the most Annalisa had ever swam before!
The team raised £425 for Against Breast Cancer and smashed their Swimathon before heading out for a well-deserved celebratory meal with their certificates and medals hanging proudly around their necks.
The donations Annalisa and her team raised, were enough to buy the necessary laboratory consumables required to screen patient blood samples for undiscovered anti-breast cancer antibodies, which currently cost £100 each!!
Congratulations Annalisa and to everyone involved in team ‘HCJS Swimathon Girls’ for sharing your amazing achievement with us. We cannot thank you enough for your support and we hope to hear all about your next adventures!
If you have taken on a sporting event, we would love to hear about it and support you in any way we can! Do get in touch by emailing our Events Team or head to our Facebook ABC Sports Hub and share your journey with us!
