Our first ever Virtual Splash of Pink Weekend!!
On the 18-19th July Against Breast Cancer hosted our first ever Virtual Splash of Pink via our Facebook page.
In previous years, the event has been hosted in Abingdon town centre, a family fun day of arts, music, competitions, food and more. However, due to the current effects of COVID-19 this year we decided to make it a virtual weekend of fundraising fun so our supporters did not miss out.
The event took place across the whole weekend, with a family feel on the Saturday and children-focused on the Sunday. We were joined by a whole host of local, national and international talents which delighted viewers.
A weekend of fundraising fun
Saturday’s line up included, styling and hair tips, fitness, live music, cooking classes from Alex Hollywood. There was also baking from long-time supporter Fiona Frost and much more.
Sunday’s line up delighted our youngest supporters with children’s fitness, Boogie Beat, children’s baking and crafts. In addition, there was a whole host of dancing and singing performances including a Disney Hour.
Even though the event could no longer be held locally in Abingdon town center, it was important for Against Breast Cancer to keep the community spirit! From the courier’s bell, the storm troopers, belly dancers and baking with Fiona Frost, we were so grateful to still have the annual local support of the local Abingdon community.
The Day kicked started with an upbeat Swing fitness session with Ruth Pugh from Swing Fit, following on with Nordic walking fitness with Debbie Atkins from DA Fitness & the breast of ballet with Emma Dodds from The Dance Collective. We then had glamourous hour with local hair stylist Rachel Capocci from Oxfordshire Bridal Hair, who shared a hair tutorial and Sarah van Dort with her expert personal stylist tips!
Alex Hollywood, then shared some fantastic cooking recipes throughout the weekend, along with Fiona Frost who usually bakes up many sweet treats for our annual Splash of Pink event. By midday everyone was up singing at their homes, as we shared music from some local stars of the future, Franscesca Marsala & The Restless Youth Band!
The afternoon was filled with belly dancing, Yoga with Cathy Talbot and Jive time with Jive Plus.
The afternoon then began with the lovely belly dancers, a yoga session with Cathy Talbot and Jive time with Jive Plus! The talent across the board was simply incredible and it carried on into our children’s fun day on Sunday…
Starting with a fun wake-up adventure class with Project PT, children were then able to get crafty with House of Fun as they showed everyone how to make wind chimes! Fiona Frost was back showing us an easy bread making recipe and then it was over to the Abingdon musical theatre talent of the Tom & Joel and the princesses as they held a Disney quiz and singalong hour! The Stormtroopers then made their annual special appearance, followed by the high energy music and movement class by Boogie Beats! To finish off our amazing weekend, we had a children’s ballet class with The Online Dance Academy, which even had parents joining in!
Little did we know we also had many dogs watching and entered into our ABC Doggo Competition! Thank you everyone for sending in your wonderful doggo pictures!
Thank you to everyone who donated over the weekend and helped us to raise over £820 which will help towards our vital research into secondary Breast Cancer. We had a great weekend, and we hope you did too!
It is amazing to still hold our annual event, that highlights the talent of our community here in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
Thank you!
We want to give a shout out for the amazing support of our sponsors Peppermint Mortgage Services and Boardman, Hawkins & Osborne LLP and all of our fabulous presenters without whom we could not have held our virtual weekend of fundraising fun. You are all stars!
I think we all know someone who’s suffered from Cancer, charities like these give us hope that there’s still a future to look forward to. I help people protect themselves financially should they suffer from a critical illness such as Breast Cancer and I can’t stress enough how important it is for a successful recovery. When you’re worried about your health, the last thing you need is to be worried about finances as well. This is something I discuss with all my customers and so it makes sense to be involved in such an important charitable organisation.
