A young man named Zak from Somerset recently showed his support to Against Breast Cancer, as well as a prostate cancer charity, by organising a sponsored haircut event in his village.
After leaving school this year and after losing family members near and dear to breast cancer and prostate cancer, Zak decided he wanted to kindly raise money for both causes. He decided to have his hair cut off after growing it for a period of time, only having the odd trim here and there.
The stage was set for 7 October 2023, with a hall booked, a hairdresser found, and the support of family and friends enlisted. Unfortunately, a week before the event, the village was hit with a COVID outbreak. Despite the setback, Zak and his team forged ahead, organizing a scaled-down version of the event. Raffles, a cake stall, drinks, and a book stall were set up, all lots of fun for those who attended.
The true spirit of community support shone through afterwards when villagers, unable to attend due to the outbreak, began knocking on Zak’s door. They handed over generous donations in envelopes, expressing their support for Zak and the charities he was fundraising for.
Against Breast Cancer would like to extend a massive thank you to Zak for his incredible donation of £600 to the charity, and to all of his family and friends, and the villagers who contributed generously, turning a local initiative into a community-wide show of support for breast cancer research.
