Our advisors
Against Breast Cancer’s team of advisors are committed to achieving our Research Strategy vision by advising on existing and potential research projects. We draw on expertise from our Science Advisory Board and also, when required, have additional input from our External Review panel.
Scientific Advisory Board
Scientists and clinicians in areas including oncology, glycobiology, immunology, epidemiology and chemistry are appointed as expert advisors to Against Breast Cancer. This range of expertise covers the areas of research that Against Breast Cancer focuses on and ensures sufficient knowledge to provide informed project funding recommendations. These scientists, alongside our Research Advocates, comprise our Scientific Advisory Board (SAB).
Research Advocates help us ensure that we fund research that is relevant to patients and the public and help us clearly communicate our Research Strategy. Research Advocates are invited from our base of corporate and public supporters.
External Review Panel
Global scientific experts in relevant research areas make up our External Review Panel to provide additional written review of applications.
Against Breast Cancer make every effort to ensure that our Advisors are balanced appropriately in terms of gender, age and ethnicity, as well as expertise and experience in line with our Research Strategy.
Requirements
All Advisors are independent of Against Breast Cancer. Current Trustees and those employed by ABC are not permitted to be Advisors.
All scientific appointments to the Scientific Advisory Board must be approved by the Trustee Board. Research Advocates and members of the External Review Panel do not need prior Trustee approval.
Advisors must declare any competing interests in line with our Conflicts of Interest Policy to enable a fair and impartial review of funding applications.
All Advisors sign a Terms of Reference agreement that clearly lays out their roles and responsibilities and confidentiality requirements.
